Mission Smart Grid
The Trustworthy Cyber Infrastructure for the Power Grid Center engages with learners of all ages. Our outreach efforts include public learning opportunities, curriculum for school age students, and programs for university students and professional continuing education. Mission Smart Grid is an interactive exhibit at the Orpheum Children's Science Museum in Champaign, IL.
The exhibit showcases:
- Missions that challenge visitors to keep the power grid balanced
- Mission Control Central where visitors can control simulations of parts of the power grid
- Options for consumers to manage their electricity consumption
- Workshop areas for learning about renewable energy sources like wind and solar.
- New technologies that increase energy efficiency and reliability
Mission Smart Grid offers museum visitors opportunities to learn about proposed changes in electricity production and delivery. Families, teachers, and students learn together as they interact with the technologies of the smart grid to learn about challenges, trade-offs and decisions necessary for modernization of the electric grid.
Funding for this project is provided by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Public Engagement (OVCPE) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
